System Administrator Automation Specialist

Looking for a unique combination of excellent
Linux system administration knowledge combined
with software development skills. In this position,
you’ll work with the Linux system administration
team to identify opportunities for further automation
and implement appropriate automation solutions.
-Automate tasks and build tools to improve
the maintainability of the Linux environment.
-Manage, extend and maintain a configuration
management system for Linux servers based on
CFEngine.
-Contribute to and improve Linux operating system
configuration standards.
-Extend monitoring systems to provide important
metrics via SNMP and other methods.
-Streamline configuration tasks by automating
data entry into various systems (database driven
and otherwise).
-Create and maintain documentation for important
procedures and systems.
-Help build and support SVN and GIT source code
repositories for other development teams.
-Participate in project planning sessions, execute
project tasks.
-Track issues in a request/ticketing system.
Qualifications:
-Prior experience with building an automated/hands-off
management system to support hundreds of servers
-Experience using Puppet, CFEngine, bcfg, chef
or other configuration management tools in a
production environment.
-Extensive knowledge and experience with Perl
and Bash scripting is required.
-Additional scripting/programming language knowledge
is strongly desired (Python, Ruby, Java, C,
etc.).
-Knowledge of database concepts and the ability
to effectively build and use SQL databases is
required.
-Ability to communicate effectively with people
of varying technical abilities.
-Familiarity with x86 computer hardware.
-At least 3 years of Linux system administration
experience.
-At least 6 years of combined system administration
and programming experience.
