The Database Administrator is responsible for administration
of all production, development and test database servers,
a mix of Microsoft SQL Server 2005 and 2008. This includes
monitoring, archiving, development, optimization, replication,
mirroring, log shipping, backup and restoration of these
databases. Responsibilities will also include performance
and tuning of existing stored procedures and Transact SQL
development for in house applications and automation. The
database administrator will be expected to maintain the
RDBMS in a proper running state with current patches applied.
The database administrator will also be expected to become
a resource to the company with in depth knowledge of the
data architecture and retrieval of the data.
Responsibilities:
-Manage all development and production database servers
-Manage database backups and ensure that Corporate Disaster
Recovery and Data Retention protocols are adhered to.
-Monitor database system details within the database, including
stored procedures and execution time, and implement efficiency
improvements.
-Respond to and resolve database access and performance
issues and conduct database transaction audits.
-Establish appropriate end-user database access control
levels.
-Establish standardized security protocols for all databases.
-Develop and maintain live snapshots for development.
-Monitor, optimize and allocate physical data storage for
database systems and work with development teams on data
sizing.
-Work with the application support / development teams for
database upgrades and releases.
-Active in all hardware decisions for new servers; and any
technology upgrades.
-Conduct research and make recommendations on database products,
services, and standards in support of development efforts.
-Manage all critical database replication, mirroring, and
log shipping that pertain to DR/BC policies.
Qualifications:
-Hands-on SQL Server 2005 and 2008 administration, database
tuning and troubleshooting experience. Must know all the
standard SQL Server tools.
-Strong understanding of database structures, theories,
principles, and practices.
-Strong knowledge of Windows Server 2003/2008; good Active
Directory knowledge.
-Candidate should have at least 3-5 years experience as
a database administrator in Microsoft SQL Server.
-Strong knowledge of software engineering best practices.
-Candidate should have excellent verbal and written communication
skills.
-Excellent documentation and knowledge management skills
-Experience in C#, Visual Basic, .Net or other programming
language is a plus.
-Candidate should have experience with development and deployment
in a production environment.
-Candidate should have ability to interact with end-users,
communicate tasks to staff, and discuss tactical/strategic
issues with management.
-Candidate should be a self-starter who will have the ability
to figure out system processes by reviewing code, data model,
and generate technical specifications based on business
specifications.
-Candidate must be able to function efficiently in a fast
paced, high stress, results oriented environment.
-SAN and DR/BC experience is a plus.
