Network Operations Engineer
Seeking a Network Operations Engineer to join
an existing IT team to assist, monitor and progressively
improve the infrastructure of a professional
trading environment. The core job functions
will be to monitor and manage the architecture,
performance and connectivity to exchanges, vendors
and other external parties. This position will
be responsible for maintaining and documenting
all infrastructure changes and communicating
the respective changes to management.
The ideal candidate is likely to have worked
within the financial industry with a robust
background in network monitoring, maintenance,
configuration, and architecture. The candidate
will be added to an existing IT team which s/he
will interact with on a daily basis. This position
interacts with all IT functional areas (e.g.
architecture, design, network engineering, Helpdesk/Desktop
support, application development and support).
The candidate will be working in a dynamic,
heterogeneous environment and must have an extensive
technical background including experience in
monitoring, maintenance, troubleshooting and
networking. The successful candidate must be
highly self motivated, excel at multitasking,
and comfortable working in a demanding, state
of the art trading environment.
Responsibilities:
-Day to day monitoring of network, server and
application environments.
-Actively maintain relationships with 3rd party
technical and business staff.
-Manage and maintain documentation pertaining
to 3rd party network and system architectures.
-Proactively monitor, maintain and manage external
connectivity to external entities.
-Actively collect and communicate 3rd party
network, systems and architectural changes to
management.
-Isolate network faults rapidly and perform
advanced troubleshooting.
-Proactively suggest enhancements to existing
configurations, technologies or procedures.
-Work closely with all IT functional areas to
design and implement operational requirements
for new and existing IT systems.
-Troubleshoot intricate networking issues down
to the bit level and up to the application layer.
-Provide critical thinking to complex problems
in a 24/7, mission critical network environment.
-Process, monitor and prioritize trouble tickets.
-Automate any and all tasks that can be automated.
-Datacenter management.
-Assist in hardware/software purchases.
-On-call rotation.
-Able to excel with minimum supervision.
-Support other key initiatives as the business
dictates.
Qualifications:
-6+ years experience in a senior networking
role.
-Excellent knowledge (6+ years) of system and
network monitoring using programs such as SNMPc,
Nagios, Cacti, Netscout, Seanet, Corvil and
Solarwinds.
-Thorough knowledge of TCP/IP and Multicast.
-Must have operations experience in 24x7 environments.
-Detailed knowledge of the OSI layers 1-4 and
associated equipment.
-Strong functional knowledge of protocols like
STP, BGP, OSPF, PIM, IGMP, MSDP, EIGRP, SNMP.
-Experience with advanced network technologies
such as QoS, CoS, IDS/IPS, VoIP, Flow Control,
PFC, store-and-forward switching, cut-through
switching, DWDM and CWDM.
-Exceptional with packet sniffing applications
(snort, TCPDump, wireshark, netmon, etc.).
-Network architecture design and implementation
experience.
-Experience with source code control systems,
and bug tracking systems like JIRA.
-Solid knowledge of scripting languages (bash,
perl, powershell, vbscript) or programming languages
(C++, C#, VB).
-Experience administrating Linux (CentOS, Fedora,
RHEL) or Windows (Server 2008, 2008 R2) a plus.
-B.S. C.S./MIS degree.
-Active or near completion of CCNA, CCNP, CCIE
or similar IT certification a plus.
-Exceptional written and verbal communication
skills. Must be able to interact with management,
vendors and external parties and should be able
to effectively communicate complex issues in
a clear and concise manner. Must be able to
thoroughly document implementations, modifications
and removals.
-Highly organized, self-motivated, able to multi-task,
able to work independently as well as a team
player.
-Must be willing to work some weekend shifts
in support of maintenance and participate in
on-call rotation duties.
-Analytical and detail orientated.
-Knowledge of Infiniband a plus.
-Knowledge of Linux, Windows and UNIX a plus.
-Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
