Application Development Manager

The Manager of Application Development coordinates
systems analysis and application development
activities. Directs development teams in the
areas of scheduling, technical direction, future
planning and adherence to standard development
practices. Participates in budgeting and capital
equipment processes and quality improvement
activities for the development organization.
Meets scheduled milestones to ensure project/program
objectives are met in a timely manner and has
an in-depth knowledge of the principles, theories,
practices and techniques for managing the activities
related to planning, managing and implementing
systems analysis and application development
activities. Management of teams, projects and
product roadmaps from business development and
design, all the way through implementation support
and sustainment. Accountable for associate development,
budget assistance and timeline management. Performs
project management tasks and coordinates project
activities for cross-functional teams.
Responsibilities:
-Lead large scale, multiple development projects
using a team of associates and contractors using
multiple onsite/offshore delivery models.
-Responsible for managing performance of team
members including pro-actively working with
team members towards achieving their career
goals/ objectives, conducting timely performance
appraisal, midyear reviews and goal setting
meetings and participate in compensation management.
Assist in developing team’s annual budget
and forecasting spends.
-Support Product Stewardship through management
of problem tickets, enhancement requests and
strategy discussions with vendors.
-Manage multiple projects to deliver high quality
solutions that meet the technical and business
requirements, deliver on schedule, and are within
budget. Collaborates with other managers regarding
dependencies across projects.
-Develops resource plans and identifies needed
and responsibilities of project team members
for project assignments. Assign project resources
to project tasks, clearly setting expectations
of task completion requirements.
-Manage the Software Development Project lifecycle
and its’ associated milestones and staffing.
Understand and apply all appropriate Software
Development Process (SDP) processes and deliverables
for the project and ensures completion.
-Communicate project status directly to customers/business
sponsors and IT Leadership through status reports,
weekly meetings, and any other communication
tools.
-Lead quality assurance function for solutions
produced by project teams to ensure adherence
to quality standards. Review and approve deliverables
and work products prior to milestone passage.
-Participate in compensation management, recruiting,
budgeting, quality improvement, and capital
equipment processes.
-Stay abreast of advances in technology, changes
in the transportation and logistics industries,
ERP product suite, and general business developments.
-Participate in the prioritization of current
and future tasks, balance priorities against
system support needs and resource projects based
on best skill set match and business objectives.
Qualifications:
-Undergraduate or Master’s Degree in one
of the following: Management Information System,
Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent
work experience.
-Middle level management position with 7 to
10 years management experience leading Oracle
ERP products, software extensions and customizations
including integration in a multi technology
environment.
-Must have prior management, supervisory or
team leader experience leading a team of associates,
contract staff onsite and offshore.
-Prefer at least 3 years management experience
leading software development teams, including
personnel and project management.
-Has an in-depth knowledge of the principles,
theories, practices and techniques for managing
the activities related to the applications and
technologies involved
-Strong communication, critical thinking, and
planning skills
